EATING 350 PACKS OF POP ROCKS

In the above video, Matt Stonie attempts to eat 350 packs of Pop Rocks. When I was a kid, Pop Rocks were the most fascinating candy I had the chance to see and taste. They weren’t commonly found, at least in the shops I were able to get to. There would be the odd time that I was able to go somewhere new to shop and the store’s candy aisle might have Pop Rocks. Oh man, what a treat it would be if they did!

Pop Rocks were such an exotic thing to me. It was a candy that made sounds in your mouth and also gave you that weird sensation as the little bits “popped”. Plus, it was candy after all, so that was great too. It was a delight to my ears and mouth (in different ways). Luckily, since the candy was somewhat difficult to purchase for me, I didn’t eat a whole lot of it when I was younger. It remained a special treat and I probably have most of my teeth because of that.

ILL

I managed to catch a cold on the weekend. I think I probably caught it on Friday night. I was out with friends and former co-workers. There were lots of people at the bar, close quarters, that type of stuff. I felt cold for most of the weekend, which was ironic, since the weather was great and temperatures were in the mid-teens.

My nose is pretty stuffy right now and it’s starting to be runny as well. My chest feels kinda tight. I also have a slight cough. Not a great way to start spring.

WORK IT

I’m shipping a game this year. I haven’t been able to say that since I helped the Madden guys get Madden 18 out the door. We’re still many months away until we’re done but I’m cautiously optimistic it’ll be ok. I haven’t done any OT at all and I’m hoping I won’t have to do too much at all, if any.

There will be some busy weeks for sure. This week might be a bit hectic but this summer will be quite interesting.

WEIGHTY

Yesterday, I weighed myself for the first time in about three months, the first time definitely for 2019. My feeling was that I wasn’t exactly thin but I wasn’t going to be fat either. It turns out, I was basically right. The scale read 164 lbs, which may seem heavy and tubby to you but that’s sorta alright for me. It would have been wonderful if I was ten pounds lighter than that but that wouldn’t have been realistic.

Because of the cold weather and general laziness, I haven’t had too much exercise since the new year. For me to be not over 170 lbs, is probably because of my diet alone. I eat a reasonable lunch of a sandwich and salad five times a week. Most night, I also have a reasonable dinner.

If I was eating nothing but carbs all day, I bet I’d be in worse shape now. As the weather becomes better, I’ll start to exercise more and my weight should start to go down from there.

NINETEEN YEARS

On March 24th, this domain turns nineteen years old. I remember when web sites were still something new and only for nerds to visit. Now sites, if they were humans, are old enough to drive, vote, and drink alcohol (in some jurisdictions).

If we make it that far as a civilization, some day there will be web sites that are 100 years old. Man, can you imagine serving content for on the Internet for a whole century?

RAIN

It rained today as I was going home from work. It was such an odd feeling having to get my umbrella out. I would say since the beginning of the year, most of the precipitation that has fallen has done so in the form of snow, rather than rain. Winters are usually rainy here in Vancouver but this winter seems different. Snow has fallen frequently instead of the rain.

The clocks changed again on the weekend and it snowed in some part of the city today. I can’t remember the last time we had snow after the time change in March. Will this be the last snow of the winter? It should be but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t.

LUNCH DEVIATION

I’ve been having a simple sandwich and a small salad for lunch pretty much every single work day since January. Yesterday, I decided to change it up and I got a cheeseburger and tots for lunch instead. It was alright, not even that greasy, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

The burger and tots made me feel kinda bleh almost immediately. I felt more tired than usual in the afternoon and the meal just sat there in my stomach longer than usual. If there was one benefit of changing it up, it was that I didn’t feel hungry at all in afternoon. I normally have a small snack around 3pm or 4pm but this was not required.

Based on how the burger and tots made me feel, I decided to go back to the sandwich and salad lunch for today. I felt much better afterwards. There are some benefits to eating the same thing everyday, though there can also be pitfalls if you’re not careful.

IRONIC

I went to sleep earlier than normal last night but despite getting more sleep, I felt more exhausted today. I’m gonna try to get to bed early again tonight and see what happens tomorrow morning. Getting more sleep can’t be all bad, right?
