I bought eight slices of banana bread, 376 g in total, from Safeway last week. After tax, that package of banana bread came to over $7. That’s ridiculous. That’s almost a dollar per slice of banana bread. That makes no sense. How is banana bread so expensive?
To add some more detail, this is banana bread is from the Safeway “Compliments” brand, so not some special bakery. In their own brand, which should be the cheaper option when you look at it. They must bake these in massive quantities, so I’m really puzzled how it could be this expensive.
Food prices are jacked up so high these days that it’s basically a crime how much large supermarket chains are making in profit.
