It seems like I’m looking to buy anything related to a household these days. While I have some cookware, cutlery, dishware, and a shower curtain now, I’d really like to buy a vacuum as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions on which models I should look into? Please don’t mention Dyson models. I am sure they are fine but I’m not willing to spend the premium prices for them.

I’ve got the bissell healthy home upright vaccum. It’s got good suction and a hepa filter. Good all around vaccum
Whatever you get, buy a bagless vacuum. I can’t even remember what brand I have but not having to empty/purchase the bags is a big bonus.
Before we got our built-in vacuum, we looked at the kenmore as well. Best ratings on consumer reports
I will echo everyone else here – any consumer guides put Kenmore at the top of the list. Eureka isn’t bad either – we had some $99 Eureka vac from wal-mart and the suction power was [insert mom joke here].
