BORED

I’m kinda bored at work right now. A few minutes ago I went to go recycle a bottle and I saw this super hot girl in the hallway. I think I might go get a mocha frap or a chocolate bar now.

A GOOD MAN

I’d like to publicly thank Chris Conklin for giving me a dish of his mother’s lasagna even though it was earmarked for his consumption and not mine. I won’t be hypoglycemic for much longer. Well, what I mean is that my blood sugar won’t be low for much longer. It’d be silly to think that eating lasagna would be a cure for hypoglycemia.

In any case, Nona, you raised him well!

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME

Tonight I went to my very first Vancouver Canadians baseball game. I haven’t been to a professional baseball game since I was a kid when I saw an Expos game in Montreal.

It was a fabulous night for a game. The weather was clear and the sun shining. The tickets were quite reasonable compared to a Canucks game. The concessions, however, were a tad expensive. I paid $6 for a bacon cheeseburger! A cup of fries were $3.

The crowd at Nat Bailey was very family-friendly. I can see why moms and dads would like to bring their kids there. It’s a relatively low-cost way of entertaining the whole family for a few hours in a fun environment.

The Canadians wound up losing the game but I had a great time nonetheless. Many thanks to Dana for organizing and driving people out to the game!

SPIDER-MAN 2

I just got back from Spider-Man 2 and it is the best movie I have seen all year.

Before watching it, I did hear a few reviews where it was declared better than the first movie, but I truly did not have any expectations going in tonight.

I’m pretty sure though, even with expectations in mind, they would have been all surpassed. Roger Ebert wrote in his review that this is “a superhero movie for people who don’t go to superhero movies”. He is completely right. While the action scenes were fantastic, I think this is the first superhero movie where the character development outshined the action.

Even if you knew nothing about Spider-Man, knew nothing about where he came from, knew nothing about his relationship with Mary Jane, the story brings it all together for you. Peter Parker has always been a popular character because everybody can see a little bit of themselves in him. Despite being Spider-Man, he still struggles to pay the pay, he still has to study, and he still has trouble with the ladies. Spider-Man 2 did a phenomenal job in showing the audience that even superheros have emotions and failings.

If you’ve never seen a superhero movie before, this is the one to see. Put it this way, this is a great movie with deep character development, it just happens that one of the characters is Spider-Man.

One final note, actor James Franco did an amazing job as the Harry Osborn, the brooding son of Norman Osborn (the villain from the first movie). He spent most of the movie being angry and vengeful. He was so good at it that I now think he probably would have been a better Anakin Skywalker. Sorry Hayden.

TOP FIVE REASONS WHY I, ERWIN TANG, SHOULD TRY INTERNET DATING

5. Get to experience rejection in the comfort of my own home

4. Advanced searches will allow me to find my dream girl who can shave my back and buy me pork rinds

3. So many nude digital pics of me, so few dating web sites

2. It worked for J-Lo

And the number one reason why I, Erwin Tang, should try Internet dating is…

1. I can tell the ladies about my small ping

STUPID CONSUMER DECISIONS

Every once in a while I go and buy something dumb. Something that I don’t need. No, I’m not talking about a pack of condoms. I’m talking about something expensive.

Feast your eyes on this:

Those are the cheapest THX-certified 5.1 speakers I could find. Even so, they still are priced at $200.

So, you might remember in an earlier post I mentioned that one of speakers in my current 5.1 system is busted. The difference between that post and this one is that I am this close to buying those Logitech speakers. Did I mention they’re THX-certified? They’re nearly 200 Watts more powerful than my current set. I’ve seen some of these systems being on sold on Ebay because “they were too powerful for my dorm room”. That alone should get me to buy them. The subwoofer itself has to be passively cooled with heating fins because of all the power it uses.

Well, I’ll hold off until the weekend before I make my decision. It also helps I don’t have a car. The whole box weighs fifty pounds. Hey, anyone want to give me a ride along Broadway sometime soon?

BEST VOTING DAY EVER

I have cast my vote in today’s federal election. I showed up at work this morning and talked to my boss. Even before I spoke about the election she wanted to be sure that I was going to vote today. She even brought up the three hours I was legally entitled to have to go vote. Sweet.

What made it even better was that she implied I probably didn’t need to come in after I went to go vote. This was the start of the best voting day ever. As the morning wore on, I finally came up with an acronym for this summer program I’m involved with. It’s a new program to get ESL first-year engineering students up to speed with grammar and language. I’m scheduled to teach two lectures in it. Anyways, my boss asked me if I had any ideas for the program name. This morning I came up with ASSIST, Applied Science Summer International Student… then I got stuck on the T. I told my boss and she said, “What about Training Program?” And there was the complete, yet long, acronym for our program.

Applied Science Summer International Student Training Program

Well, with that triumph over, it was almost lunchtime. A little more diddling around and I was off back to SJC. I met up with Pat and Phil. We drove to the University Chapel to cast our ballots. I took a little longer since I had to get my registration changed. Total time at the church was ten minutes.

Next, we headed off to Wendy’s for lunch near Broadway and Heather. It was then I realized I still had several hours before I had to go back to work. With the nice weather and all, I declared it as “the best voting day ever”. Lunch was efficient yet pleasant. We arrived back home just shortly before 2pm. I checked my e-mail and then napped for a bit. I got up, shaved, and then changed into some shorts.

I decided to go pay my phone bill and then made a leisurely walk back to work. I’m here now and am about ready for a solid half hour of work before I end “the best voting day ever”.
